2010-02-08 20:45:252009-09-01, "MRI: Development of a State-of-the-Art Laser Micro-machining and Surface Engineering System" was awarded funding by NSF CMMI #0923000 Prof. Yip-Wah Chung, Prof. Kornel Ehmann, Prof. Jian Cao, and Prof. Q. Jane Wang, all of Northwestern University, were awarded NSF funding for their project entitled "MRI: Development of a State-of-the-Art Laser Micro-machining and Surface Engineering System" (CMMI 0923000).2008-10-09, Rui Zhou won 3rd place in the ASME Annual Design and Manufacturing Competition Rui Zhou, a graduate student at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Northwestern University, won the 3rd place in the ASME Annual Design and Manufacturing Competition. The manufacturing design competition was established in 1995 by ASME MED to recognize students for “any design of a system, component or process that can be used to promote the science and practice of manufacturing engineering." The purpose of the competition is to foster student projects that promote the art, science and practice of manufacturing engineering. Rui is currently working with Prof. Cao and Prof. Ehmann to invest the size effect in micro manufacturing and develop desktop micro forming center.2007-03-30, Tiffany Davis received 2007 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Award Tiffany Davis, a graduate student at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Northwestern University, was awarded a 2007 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. The Fellowship recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in the relevant science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines who are pursuing research-based master’s and doctoral degrees. NSF Fellows are expected to become knowledge experts who can contribute significantly to research, teaching, and innovations in science and engineering. Tiffany is currently working with Profs. Cao, Ehmann and Wang to invest the size effect and process effects in surface texturing.
